Sponsorship
The Northeast Mycological Federation (NEMF) comprises 25 mycology clubs with thousands of active members from Pennsylvania to Quebec. Our singular activity is to produce an annual foray for scientists, researchers, academics, and producers of medicinal and edible mushroom products. Participants identify 400+ species of fungi over the course of several days and engage in presentations on fungal evolution, taxonomy, conservation, and applications (cultivation, medicinal, mycoremediation).
Our work during this event creates valuable data for the scientific community, particularly as cryptic and less common species will be posted to the global databases. NEMF is a nonprofit organization and relies on volunteers to put together this annual event.
In fact, most of the mycology community is composed of citizen scientists who do not receive compensation for contributions to the field of mycology. This field is increasingly vital as we learn more about fungi's role in our changing climate, shifts in the distribution in native and invasive plant species, and the cultural importance of mushroom hunting that we hope will be fruitful for generations to come.
