          Join acclaimed mycologist and seasoned photographer Alan Rockefeller for an immersive eight-hour workshop, with plenty of time for one on one guidance, designed to elevate your mushroom photography skills. Whether you're an amateur enthusiast or a seasoned professional, this workshop offers invaluable insights and techniques to capture the intricate beauty of fungi using the tools at your disposal.
         In this workshop, participants will learn how to maximize the potential of their equipment, whether it's a cell phone, DSLR, or mirrorless camera. Alan will guide attendees through the fundamental principles of composition, lighting, and macro photography specifically tailored to the unique characteristics and challenges of photographing wild mushrooms in their environments.

 

Key topics covered include:

  • Using a cell phone to take the best possible mushroom pictures.

  • Mastering composition techniques to showcase the textures, colors, and forms of different mushroom species.

  • Utilizing macro lenses and focus stacking to capture intricate details and highlight the nuances of mushroom morphology.

  • Tips for effective fieldwork, including how to take photos and make collections for scientific study.

  • Introduction to post-processing techniques using Photoshop and Helicon Focus to enhance and stack images for unparalleled clarity and depth of field.


          Whether you're drawn to the delicate gills of a chanterelle or the vibrant hues of a fly agaric, this workshop provides a comprehensive toolkit to transform your mushroom photography from ordinary to extraordinary.           This workshop will begin at 9:00 AM on Thursday, October 10 with a lunch break at 12:30 to 1:00 and finishing at 5:00 PM.

          Pre-registration is required for this workshop taking place one day prior to our foray. Tickets can be purchased during the registration process. 

 

         Lodging for additional nights, including to attend this pre-foray workshop, can be purchased by adding a ticket for Wednesday and Thursday night when purchasing your conference and workshop tickets. Meals are the responsibility of the participant during these added days and nights.
