Cape Cod Land Acknowledgement

This year, the Northeast Mycological Federation will hold its annual foray on Cape Cod; land which has been inhabited by People of the First Light, the Mashpee Wampanoag, for more than 12,000 years. As we celebrate the biodiversity of the Cape, we recognize that this conference is being held on the unceded territories of the Mashpee Wampanoag. We recognize that tribal descendents of those who survived colonialism have had to fight for decades for both federal recognition and the return of a fraction of their homelands.

We can honor ongoing tribal stewardship of the lands upon which we will foray by giving directly to the Mashpee Wampanoag. Donations can be made here: https://mashpeewampanoagtribe-nsn.gov/donations

The Mashpee Wampanoag have tribal lands in Mashpee and Taunton. Consider visiting the Mashpee Wampanoag museum: https://mashpeewampanoagtribe-nsn.gov/museum and their website: https://mashpeewampanoagtribe-nsn.gov/culture for more information.
